AC/DC FRONT MAN BRIAN JOHNSON RAISES FUNDS FOR
ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION WITH ‘HIGHWAY TO HELP’ CAMPAIGN
Fifty Plus Racing team committed to making a difference for people impacted by Alzheimer’s
CHICAGO, December 21, 2012 – The lead singer of the rock band AC/DC, Brian Johnson and Fifty Plus
Racing announce the ‘Highway to Help’ campaign benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association.
The ‘Highway to Help’ campaign will kickoff January 4–6, 2013 at the Roar Before the Rolex 24, a three–day fan fest
where attendees participate in guided garage tours, tech talks and fan forums. After the “Roar,” Johnson and the
Fifty Plus Racing team will encourage support of “Highway to Help” leading up to and during the 51st annual Rolex
24 at Daytona on January 26–27, a 24–hour sports car endurance race held at Daytona International Speedway. The
race will mark the start of the 2013 Rolex Sports Car Racing Series season. Johnson has been the front man for
powerhouse rock band AC/DC since 1980. In addition to his musical acclaim, Johnson is an avid racing enthusiast,
member of the Fifty Plus Racing team and Alzheimer’s advocate.
“Fifty Plus Racing is proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association and do our part on the track to spotlight this
disease,” said Brian Johnson. “‘Highway to Help’ was created in honor of the millions of people affected by
Alzheimer’s. Our team is racing for awareness and eventually a cure.”
Johnson’s fellow Fifty Plus Racing team members and drivers include Frank Beck, Byron DeFoor, Jim Pace, former
Rolex 24 overall winner, Carlos DeQuesada, former Rolex 24 class winner and Ian James, current champion in all
four of the NASCAR owned Grand–Am sanctioned Daytona Prototype, GT, Grand Am Cup Grand Sport and
Sport touring classes.
“The Alzheimer’s Association appreciates the support of Brian Johnson and the entire Fifty Plus Racing team,” said
Angela Geiger, Chief Strategy Officer for the Alzheimer’s Association. “The team is truly passionate about racing
and recognizes the great need for more awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s.”
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is the nation’s sixth leading cause of death. According to the
Alzheimer’s Association 2012 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts & Figures, more than five million Americans are currently living
with Alzheimer’s. Approximately 200,000 of those people are under the age of 65 and living with younger–onset
Alzheimer’s.

Brian Johnson launches own radio show
Brian Johnson gets to combine his two big passions – music and motors – in his very own radio show.
The AC/DC frontman, originally from Dunston, Gateshead, has been given his own BBC Radio 2 show – Brian Johnson’s Rockers and Rollers – and he admits putting it together was tough.
“Everyone thinks doing radio is just sitting down, you put a mic in front of you and just waffle, but it’s not that easy,” said Brian.
“I sat in this studio with a big black mic in front of us and not an idea. Thankfully Ben Jones and Dan Cocker helped me out. I have to thank those two.”
The show, which runs for six weeks from this Thursday, will provide a soundtrack to Brian’s life featuring music from ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band – and there’ll be plenty of car talk too.
“Basically, I wrote a book called Rockers and Rollers, not about me, there’s enough of them,” he explained.
“My memory is terrible, but cars always help me remember things. If someone asked ‘What’s the name of the girl you went out with when you were 19?’ you couldn’t remember, but you’d remember having a Mini Cooper. Cars started to get cool and groovy when rock and roll started – when Ike Turner brought out Rocket 88 it was about his car, the thing he loved.
“The thing you wanted when you were a young man was a car because it was freedom!”
He added: “Cars and music, the two of them sort of went together, so I start to marry the two.”
Brian has maintained his broad Geordie accent despite living in Florida in the United States for the last 35 years – but he’s come a cropper on a few trips back North with his American jargon.
“I’ve got a grandson, little Edwin, he’s two and a bit so I’ve just got to get back to see him as much as I can,” he said.
“The trouble is I’ve been back to Newcastle and with living in America, I’ll go to a garage and I’ll ask for gas.
“Oh my god, the hell I’ve got up there – ‘Ooh, you’ve changed son!’ – so I’ve got to be real careful not to call a car bonnet or boot a hood or a trunk. I walk on eggshells!”
:: Brian Johnson’s Rockers and Rollers starts this Thursday at 10pm.

I LOST ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS SUNDAY LAST, DONALD DUCK DUNN PASSED AWAY IN TOKYO, JAPAN AFTER DOING A WEEK OF SHOWS, I WAS WITH JUNE HIS WIFE ABOUT 8 HRS AFTER WE HEARD. SHE IS NATURALLY DEVASTATED BY THE NEWS.
MY WIFE AND I HAVE BEEN FRIENDS WITH THE DUNN’S FOR 18 YEARS AND WE’VE HAD MANY WONDERFUL TIMES TOGETHER.
DUCKS BARBECUES ARE LEGEND, HIS LAUGHTER THE MOST CONTAGIOUS , AND HIS CUSSING WAS OF AN OLYMPIC STANDARD. I DON’T HAVE THE WORDS TO MEASURE HIS LOSS HAS HAD ON ME. I JUST KNOW I’LL MISS HIM SO MUCH.
R.I.P. DUCK
BRIAN.

Brian was on the BBC’s Top Gear last night (Sunday Feb 19) doing a segment with James May – he raced his 1929 Bentley against the Fisker, a new electric car, driven by James May.
Sadly, after a good start, the Bentley was left in the Fisker’s rear view mirrors.
The good news is that they have added a few chapters of the Audio Book to the Top Gear web site – have a look here
